At Marketing Live in May, Google said plainly that AI Mode is where search is heading, and coverage of the event put its audience at more than a billion monthly users. For anyone who has spent years thinking in terms of ten blue links, that is a big shift. The question for a clinic, a law firm or an interiors studio in Dubai is simple: what do I do differently on Monday?
The honest answer is less than the headlines suggest, but not nothing. The basics still matter, and a few of them matter a lot more than they used to.
Fewer clicks, more decisions made on Google
In AI Mode, people ask longer questions and get a written answer with a few businesses mentioned. Many of them will decide from that answer, or from your map listing, without ever opening your website. Your site is still the source, but it is no longer always the shop window.
This means the information Google can read about you has to be complete and consistent. Your opening hours, services, areas, prices or price ranges, and the languages you work in should be written clearly on your site and on your Google Business Profile. If those two disagree, you are asking a machine to guess.
Write pages that answer full questions
People type things into AI Mode that they would never have typed into a search box a few years ago, such as which clinic near Dubai Hills does same-week appointments for children. A page that answers that kind of question directly has a much better chance of being used in the answer than a page full of general claims.
- One page per service, covering who it is for, what happens, how long it takes and how pricing works.
- A short list of the questions your team hears on the phone, with straight answers.
- Your location details as plain text, not only inside a map or an image.
Reviews and mentions count for more
When an AI answer recommends a business, it needs reasons it can trust. Recent reviews, replies to those reviews, and mentions on credible local sites give it those reasons. A profile with steady reviews from the last few months looks far safer to recommend than one with a burst of reviews from three years ago.
The practical step is to ask every happy customer for a review, at the moment they are happiest, with a link that takes two taps. It is unglamorous work, and it is one of the few things in search that is fully in your control.
Stop judging search on traffic alone
If more decisions happen on Google, your website visits may flatten even when search is working well. Watch calls, WhatsApp chats, direction requests and bookings that come from search and your map listing. Those numbers tell you whether people are choosing you, which is what traffic was always meant to stand in for.
