Selling into Saudi from Dubai: why Arabic-first is no longer optional

For a lot of Dubai-based businesses, Saudi Arabia is the obvious next market. It is large, close and investing heavily. The common approach has been to run the same campaigns with a translated landing page and a Riyadh phone number, and hope it carries over.

That approach is getting weaker. Commentators on the regional industry, including AGBI, point to Arabic-first content rising in the kingdom and to Saudi talent and culture shaping more of the region's creative work. Buyers notice when a brand was clearly built for somewhere else.

Translation is not localisation

A translated page answers the question "can I read this?" A localised one answers "is this for me?" The second needs local examples, local proof, pricing in riyals, the right working days and hours, and an offer that fits how people there buy.

It also needs Arabic written by someone who writes Arabic well, not checked after the fact. Readers can tell immediately when copy was written in English first and converted later.

Proof has to travel too

Case studies from Dubai help, but Saudi buyers will look for signs that you understand their market. Even one or two local clients, partners or references change how a pitch lands. If you do not have them yet, be honest about it and show how you will learn the market quickly.

  • Separate landing pages and campaigns for Saudi, written for Saudi buyers.
  • A local number or WhatsApp line that is answered during Saudi working hours.
  • Reporting split by country, so Saudi results are not hidden inside UAE averages.

Check the rules before you scale

Saudi Arabia has its own rules on advertising, data protection and licensing, and they differ from the UAE in places. Speak to someone who knows them before you move serious budget, especially if you will collect personal data or work with creators there.

Start narrow

Pick one city and one offer, and get it working properly before expanding. A focused start in Riyadh will teach you more than a thin campaign across the whole kingdom. Once one corner works, the next is far easier to plan.
